Popular Kenyan musician Khaligraph Jones in partnership with betting firm Odibets on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 unveiled the winner of the “Odinare” rap challenge.

Kibera born-rapper Katapila won the Odinare rap challenge walking away with the grand prize of Ksh 1 million.

BenC and Real Elai, came in second and third walking away with Ksh 500,000 and Sh300,000 respectively.

Speaking after being declared the winner, a jovial Katapila said it was a life changing achievement.

“Thank you for the fans who voted for me. This is a life-changing achievement and I would urge Kenyans to continue listening to hip-hop.” Katapila said.

Rapper Khaligraph congratulated Katapila for winning the rap challenge and being the newest millionaire in town.

However, many think that OdiBets conducted and awarded the cash money prizes in a controversial and fraudulent manner.

Those that took to social media indicated that the winner did not deserve the award as he had been in the game for the longest time and knows the tricks of the industry.

Others felt that the awards needed to be given to upcoming artists and not those who had been in the game longer.

During the event, Khaligraph himself acknowledged the fact that some deserving rappers were elbowed out of the competition not because they were not good at the game but because they lacked clout.

“Hata mimi kuna time niliparticipate kwa Competition flani na hata Mwafrika was part of the judges. Enda youtube mtaiona. Nilichujwa juu si eti sikuwa najua kurap but saa hii si niko hapa?. hivo sijasema Mwafrika ulinitoa.” He quipped.

He also gave a perfect example of one rapper who felt so disgruntled after he was dropped from the race that he took to social media with a photo of Khaligraph’s nemesis to vent his frustrations.

Another incident that depicted how fraudulent the Challenge was occurred when one winner took to the stage to rap but he failed terribly to deliver even three lines. When asked by Khaligraph what he was doing, he outrightly told all that cared to hear the last time he tried rap was seven years ago but was lucky to get awarded. In actual sense, he was awarded for what he didn’t know how best to do!

Below are some of the reactions from disgruntled fans.
