The Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) has said that it has commenced a process of picking its 2022 General Election Presidential candidate.

ODM says that it has tasked its National Elections Board (NEB) to run advertisements for the same in the local dailies, inviting applications from interested candidates.

The Opposition party also says it will demand that an ODM person will be nominated to fill the slot of Nairobi County Deputy Governor, if the recently sworn into office as Deputy Governor Ms Anne Kananu is eventually swron in as the City governor after the impeachment of former Governor Mike Sonko.

ODM has also refuted claims that Jubilee has introduced a raft of new demands to be met if they are to get Nairobi’s DG post.

This was arrived at during the Central Management Committee meeting chaired the party’s deputy leaders Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) and Hassan Joho (Mombasa), attended by top party officials.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the resolutions were borne of a closed-door meeting.

Sifuna noted that going forward, ‘the ODM party will insist on structured and formal negotiations with partners and allies on all matters’ following reports that Jubilee had tabled new demands for ODM to adhere to if the party was to benefit more from the handshake.

On Nyamira County matters where the County Assembly rejected a nominated candidate for the Deputy Governor slot, Sifuna said that the party has given out a different name for the same post.
