‘Step Down and Vie with Azimio’ – UDA MCAs Tell Sakaja

United Democratic Alliance allied Members of County Assembly, have dared Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to step down and seek re-election on an Azimio ticket.

Led by the minority Whip Anthony Kiragu and Umoja 1 MCA Mark Mugambi the county legislators are decrying isolation from the governor in favour of Azimio allied members.

The MCAs expressed displeasure with what’s happening in the county of Nairobi saying it is not acceptable and doesn’t represent aspirations and the manifesto of Kenya Kwanza.

“We have decided to pull out all our people from the vetting process he has the numbers of the members from Azimio. So we want to tell the people of Nairobi that governor Sakaja wants to pass the chief officers with Azimio so let the people of Kenya Kwanza and party know,” said Kiragu.

The MCAs vowed to boycott a special sitting slated for this afternoon during which the Assembly was expected to approve Governor Sakaja’s 33 Chief Officer nominees.

He added that what’s happening in the appointments is un acceptable and it doesn’t represent the aspirations of the people of Nairobi.

On his part the Umoja one member of County assembly Mark Mugambi affirmed that UDA will not adopt any vetting report of any chief officer until the governor handles ‘these’ matters in a proper manner.

Among the bond of contention is Governor Sakaja’s move to appoint Lucky Ogutu Okudo as Chief Officer for ICT and Energy.

“As Kenya Kwanza we cannot not participate in an illegality, and Ogutu cannot be the face of Nairobi,” said Mugambi.

Governor Sakaja however defended his move saying he was elected by both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza supporters, and that his appointments reflect the face of the city.
