Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has said Uhuru Park will be reopened to the public in December, 2022 adding that no charges will be levied on Nairobians who wish to visit the park.

Uhuru Park and Cenrtal Park were closed to the public in February last year by NMS inorder to rehabilitate them to give them a more modern and robust outlook.

“This is just the beginning, the county is in the process of rehabilating all the parks across the county where our people can rest and enjoy the environment,” Sakaja said while flagging off the World Tourism Day at City Hall.

The Governor also said his administration is in the process of reclaiming all social places that had been grabbed and repurpose them back to their initial use where young people can be able to exploit their talents and be creative.

“Some scrupulous people have grabbed some of these social amenities areas, we are reclaiming them, improving them and will create new ones to ensure every sub-county has at least a recreational facility,” Sakaja added.

The governor retaliated his commitment to support the creative economy, adding that he is in discussion with the national government to zero rate music and studio equipments in order to support growth and the expansion of the creative industry in Nairobi and Kenya,” added Sakaja

World Tourism Day has been held on 27 September each year since 1980 to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
