Magoha: Parents must prepare to pay for the cost of burning school property

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has warned parents and guardians to be ready to pay for the rebuilding of schools when students set the buildings ablaze.  

He insisted that both parents and guardians won’t ran away from their responsibility to bear the burden of constructing new learning facilities.   

“Cases of arson at learning institutions in the country won’t stop the national examinations from taking place,” he pointed out.   

Magoha said the students will be forced to do their national examinations under trees.

He was reacting to the incident at Kisumu Boys High School in Kisumu where property of unknown value was destroyed during his fact finding mission at Bomu Secondary School in Changamwe constituency, Mombasa county.

The Education CS scoffed at the students at Kisumu Boys where a fire gutted a section of the school a few days after it was opened pointing out that this was not a wise thing to do.

He challenged the mad students to burn the houses of their parents and guardians too if they are sincere enough.

“The government won’t take burning of schools lightly as in previous years,” he pointed out.

The CS reiterated parents will be forced to re-build the destroyed school buildings.

Magoha advised parents to have bonding and engage with their children to avert cases of arson at learning institutions in future.

He refuted claims the government is not bothered about students burning schools insisting parents will face the consequence of re-building the destroyed facilities.  

“The national examinations won’t be postponed as a result of the arson and the exercise will go ahead,” he pointed out.
