NGO Council calls for Sobriety in Debating Political Parties Amendment Bill

The National Council of NGOs has called on political leaders to embrace sobriety in debating the on the proposed Political parties amendment bill 2021 currently before the floor.

Last week serious verbal and physical exchanges marred the debates forcing the Minority Leader John Mbadi to be kicked out of the assembly.

The council now says Parliament is a house of order and they are expected to make laws that benefit the country.

“We strongly condemn any unnecessary sharp differences and settling of score as MP’s debate on the Bill. We urge for sobriety during the debate,” Stephen Cheboi the National Chairman NGO Council said in a statement.

The National Parliament has today resumed on a three day special sitting to continue with the debate after they engaged in a fist.

Cheboi adds that Parliament has the constitutional mandate to make laws on behalf of Kenyans and thus they should have the opportunity to make laws for posterity and for the benefit of the nation.

“The NGO Council further urges that public participation is a key process in law making and thus should be adhered to fully. The Council urges members of the public to engage in the process by giving out their views on the proposed amendments.”

The legislators are expected to continue with the third round of the debate which has seen the house divided.

The Tangatanga succeeded in ensuring frustration in the last two special sittings.

The Majority leader of National Assembly Amos Kimunya claimed that the UDA members are under an order to cause chaos failure to which they’d face the consequences.

“We Know by talking to them that they do not only fear they are being watch by the DP but also their ground. They cannot go against their master who is against their master who is not supporting the bill,” said Kimunya.

Today morning before the session begun, the National Speaker Justin Muturi directed use of electronic cards during voting by the members. Electronic voting is the option which has been seen as a solution to defeat the hustlers side who have an attempt to cause frustration.

“Would there be any division, Members will use an electronic voting system,”Said Muturi.
